EVE

EVE-Online is the worlds largest online persistent universe. By this I mean its one world that is available 23 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. It never gets reset, or things undone, it’s a constantly evolving community. There are not several servers dotted around the globe with their own insular worlds, there is just one universe and every player from around the globe is in the same space, at the same time. CCP, EVE’s developers, claim to have over 300,000 active accounts, and from my own (extensive) experience there are often over 40,000 people online at once.

I have been playing EVE since the last phase of beta testing over 5 years ago, and I have seen it change from a mindblowingly beautiful game with awesome depths of gameplay, into the sandpit of joy it is today for 300,000 people.
